Your Website - GDPR, Golden Padlocks and Google

On 25th May this year, GDPR came into force. GDPR (The General Data Protection Regulation) is a new EU regulation aimed at helping to strengthen data protection within the EU and the wider world.
You cannot ignore GDPR - there are substantial fines for non-compliance!

The new data protection rules put much more emphasis on online security than ever before. One of the ways to protect your website’s users’ data is to use HTTPS, which is also known as a 'Golden Padlock'. HTTPS encrypts data between a browser and a server, reducing the risk of data breaches. To use HTTPS, you must have a SSL Certificate on the server where your website is hosted.

Additionally, Google Chrome now mark website forms not using HTTPS with a 'Not Secure' flag as a warning to users and this could potentially deter your website visitors from contacting you.

Minting Digital strongly recommend that if your website has a 'Contact Us' or any other form which can be filled in and submitted, you should now be using one of our SSL hosting packages, details of which can be found at our website at mintingdigital.co.uk.
If you wish to find out more about GDPR, there are many sources of information regarding what you as a business owner must do to comply with the new regulation. The most reliable can be found at the Information Commissioner's Office website - ico.org.uk
